Skiers and outdoorspeople will know how uncomfortable cold shoes could be. The rest of your body may be as cozy as ever, wrapped up in fleece jackets and thick scarves and Uniqlo Heattech wear, but all that is moot if your feet are freezing cold. Hand warmers, both chemical and electric, can only do so much - and besides, if you're skiing or hiking, you can't afford to wear baggy, oversized shoes to accommodate said hand warmers.

But look at your shoes: how much space would a shoe insert take up? What's five extra millimeters beneath your feet? And shoe inserts are like leather jackets - they retain your body heat if they're held against your skin for a certain length of time, but until then they're freezing cold to the touch. What about electric heated shoe inserts? Cut them down to size, slide them into your shoes or boots, stick three AA batteries in each battery box, and strap them to your ankle - instant underfoot heating units complete! No more shivering your way down the ski trail.
